We Help You Look After Your Voice!
Based in Glasgow, West End Voice is a collaboration between an Ear, Nose & Throat Consultant and a Speech & Language Therapist. With many years of clinical experience between us, we have witnessed first-hand the wide impact voice problems can have on actors, TV and radio presenters, singers, teachers and other professionals reliant on their voice as the tool of their trade. As well as working with clients who have developed voice difficulties, we want to educate professional voice users about how they can protect their voices against fatigue, strain or an altered voice quality.
Our training is tailored to your business or individual needs. We help you understand how the voice works, the typical difficulties associated with your profession and how these can be prevented. In longer workshops we help you to make the most of your vocal skills and develop richness in your voice.
Consultant Otolaryngologist Head & Neck Surgeon
Speech and Language Therapist
I was a consultant ear, nose and throat surgeon with a particular interest in the voice and I have led a voice clinic in my NHS consultant practice for 21 years. I had the opportunity to train in London in the late 1990s at one of the first multidisciplinary voice clinics in the UK where we had close connections with the West End Production companies and many other performing arts institutions. It was there that I recognised the importance of providing a dedicated service to professional voice users to educate, assess and intervene when appropriate.
MBChB Edin., FRCS, FRCS (ORL HNS)
I have 25 years of clinical experience as a speech and language therapist, specialising in adult voice problems and adult stammering. Being able to communicate is integral to who we are and whether you are informing, educating or entertaining others, I will combine a scientific understanding of the voice with the craft of therapy to help you use your voice safely, and with strength and flair. I am skilled at identifying how individual clients and groups of professional voice users may unwittingly be placing limitations on their vocal potential, and I look forward to finding out what the voice means to you and how we can help you reach your goals.
I am qualified to provide vocal massage which can help to relieve muscular niggles around the neck (including the voice box / larynx), face and head, and 'reset' the voice.
I am a member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists and my work is regulated by the Health and Care Professions Council.
I hold a BMedSci (Hons) in Speech Science from the University of Sheffield and a Masters in Educational Research with Distinction from the University of Strathclyde. In 2022, I published a book - Navigating Voice Disorders: around the larynx in 50 tips - which is aimed at student and newly qualified speech and language therapists.
